Argentina's airport security police hit by payroll data breach

Argentina's Policía de Seguridad Aeroportuaria (PSA), the federal force responsible for airport security, was reported in early January 2025 to have had payroll data compromised, with money taken from officers' salaries.

Officers and civilian staff found unexplained deductions on their pay slips, generally between 2,000 and 5,000 pesos, roughly 2 to 5 US dollars at the January 2025 official rate, booked under invented headings such as "DD mayor" and "DD seguros". Affected employees had to request reversals individually through Banco Nación's platform, which caused considerable frustration inside the force.

Argentine outlets and The Record reported that the intrusion originated at Banco Nación, the state bank that processes PSA payroll, rather than in PSA's own systems, and that investigators had not ruled out domestic execution or inside assistance. Some reporting said personal and financial records covering the force's payroll were accessed, though PSA leadership verbally denied to one outlet that sensitive personnel information exposing officers had been reached.

Neither the PSA nor Banco Nación issued a public statement about the incident. Unofficially, the force was said to have blocked some services and started an internal cybersecurity awareness campaign. The motive, the total sum taken and the number of people affected were not established in the reporting available at the time.
