FBI confirmed a cyber incident on its own network at the New York field office

The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed on 17 February 2023 that it was investigating a cyber incident on its own computer network.
CNN first reported the intrusion, saying hackers had compromised a system at the bureau's New York field office. According to that reporting, the affected computer system was used in investigations involving images of child sexual exploitation. Coverage by BleepingComputer and TechCrunch described the same field office and the same category of casework.
The FBI did not dispute the account but released almost no detail. In a short statement the bureau said the incident was isolated and had been contained, and declined to comment further while the investigation continued.
Nothing was made public about when the intrusion began, how long the attackers had access, what data if any was taken, or how they got in. No criminal group claimed responsibility and the bureau did not attribute the activity to anyone. The FBI also declined to answer questions about the scope and impact of the compromise.
As of the reporting date the incident remained unattributed and undescribed beyond the bureau's confirmation that it had happened and had been contained.
