Fresh Del Monte Produce notified employees after network intrusion

Fresh Del Monte Produce, one of the world's largest growers and distributors of fresh fruit and vegetables, notified current and former employees that their personal information had been exposed in a network intrusion earlier in 2023.

According to the notice summarised by the law firm Console and Associates, the company detected unauthorized activity on its network on January 13, 2023 and took systems offline to limit further access. A review of the affected files was completed on April 25, 2023, and notification letters were mailed on May 16, 2023. The UK security publication teiss, working from the same filing, reported a narrower window of unauthorized access running from January 25 to January 31, 2023, with the forensic review finishing on March 9.

The exposed data varied by individual. Reported categories included names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, passport numbers and, depending on the account, financial account details and protected health or treatment information. Fresh Del Monte said no consumer data was involved in the incident.

The company engaged outside cybersecurity specialists, reset passwords and enabled multi-factor authentication on affected business email accounts, and offered two years of complimentary credit monitoring. It filed a data breach notice with the Massachusetts Attorney General. Neither the company nor the filings gave a total number of people affected.
