Governor General of Canada Detects Internal Network Breach

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security is investigating a breach after being informed of unauthorized access to the internal network of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG). The government’s cyber experts said they took “immediate action to strengthen its network” upon discovering the breach.

The Cyber Centre has yet to release any information regarding the incident leaving only speculation. All parties are keeping their lips sealed as an investigation to determine and understand the scope of the breach is still underway. A statement on the Centre’s website reads, “We are working closely with OSGG to ensure there are robust systems and tools in place to monitor, detect, and investigate potential threats, and to neutralize threats when they occur.”

The OSGG has notified the Office of the Privacy Commissioner about the incident assuring that they will be prioritizing the protection of the personal information of those who work and interact with the office.
