National Presto Industries disrupted by March 2025 cyberattack

National Presto Industries, the Wisconsin manufacturer behind the Presto line of small kitchen appliances, disclosed a cybersecurity incident that began on 1 March 2025 and caused a system outage. The company reported the incident to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in a filing on 6 March.

The company said the outage temporarily affected shipping and receiving, some manufacturing processes and a range of back office functions, much of which was in the process of being restored, and that temporary measures had been put in place to keep critical functions running. SecurityWeek reported that the company's phone lines were also down.

National Presto said it activated an incident response team of internal staff and external cybersecurity experts, notified law enforcement in coordination with legal counsel, and had notified or would notify federal and state regulators and consumer protection agencies. It cautioned that the incident could have a material effect on its financial condition and results, and said its forensic analysis had not yet produced conclusive findings.

The company operates three segments: housewares and small appliances, a defense business run through National Defense Corporation, and a safety products line. The filing did not say whether the defense units were affected. No group had claimed the attack at the time of the March reporting. SecurityWeek reported on 1 April 2025 that the InterLock ransomware group had taken credit and claimed files taken from National Defense Corporation.
