RansomEXX claimed a 142GB data theft from Taiwan's Lite-On Technology

The RansomEXX extortion group added Lite-On Technology Corporation to its dark web leak site on July 26, 2024, claiming to hold roughly 142GB of data taken from the Taiwanese manufacturer. The listing threatened to publish the material unless the company paid.

Lite-On, founded in 1975 and headquartered in Taipei, produces optoelectronic components, LED lighting, power management modules, semiconductors, storage devices and automotive electronics. Red Hot Cyber, which reported the listing, said that if the breach were confirmed the leaked data could include sensitive customer information and internal details about ongoing projects, and it characterised the intrusion as involving encryption of company systems. The threat intelligence firm CYFIRMA, monitoring the same underground posting, described the incident as the theft of about 142GB of confidential organisational data and did not refer to encryption.

Neither account was able to verify the contents of the dataset, and the claim rested entirely on the attackers' own post. RansomEXX, previously tracked as Defray777, has historically targeted large manufacturers and other high value enterprises, typically gaining access through phishing, exposed vulnerabilities or credential attacks.

Lite-On did not publish a statement about the claim on its website, and as of the reporting date the company had neither confirmed nor denied that a breach took place. No figure for the number of individuals affected was released by the company or by the attackers.
