Sensata Technologies ransomware attack halts shipping and production

Sensata Technologies, an industrial sensor and electrical protection manufacturer headquartered in Attleboro, Massachusetts, was hit by ransomware on Sunday, April 6, 2025. The company disclosed the incident in a Form 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on April 9.

According to the filing, the ransomware encrypted devices across Sensata's network. The company proactively took the network offline as a containment measure, and shipping, receiving, manufacturing production and various other support functions were temporarily disrupted. Interim measures allowed some functions to be restored, but Sensata said the timeline for full restoration was not yet known.

Sensata also confirmed that certain files were removed from its network. It said it was working to identify what had been taken and committed to notifying affected individuals and regulators as required. The company activated its incident response protocols, engaged third-party cybersecurity professionals and notified law enforcement.

Sensata told investors it did not expect the attack to have a material effect on results for the quarter ending June 30, while cautioning that the assessment could change because the full scope of the incident was not yet known. Separately, for the quarter ended March 31 it expected revenue and adjusted earnings to land within or slightly above the guidance issued on 11 February, which put revenue at roughly $870m to $890m. As of mid-April no ransomware group had publicly claimed the attack and no ransom demand had been disclosed. Sensata employs about 19,000 people and reported roughly $4bn in revenue in its last full year.
